A Warwickshire construction company has announced plans for a new training centre that could see the creation of nearly 200 new jobs in the area.
Rok, owner of Sol Construction Warwick, said that it hopes to create 180 new jobs over the next 18 months, news that is likely to appeal to students in the area as they could work at the new centre part-time in order to fund their studies.
According to the Coventry Telegraph, the creation of the training centre would also bring about as many as 120 apprenticeships in trades such as joinery and plastering over the next four years.
Keith Watson, Rok managing director for central England, told the newspaper that the centre would, ideally, be operational by September 2008, and would help address the skills shortage currently in the industry.
"Addressing the skills shortage is probably one of the most important issues in the business," he said. "The construction industry has been diabolical at training people so we are looking to reverse that."
According to research by the University of Glasgow, Coventry along with London, Southampton-Portsmouth, Sheffield, Liverpool and Newcastle is in the top 20 European cities for urban employment revival.
