UK internet users are speed freaks, according to the latest research.
A Top 10 Broadband survey revealed that connection speed is the most important factor in broadband customers' satisfaction.
The comparison website carried out 90,000 speed tests in March and found that the ISPs with the fastest connections had the most satisfied customers.
At the top of the list were O2, Be Broadband and Virgin Media with the highest levels of satisfied customers.
O2's connection speed was 6.41Mbps compared to Tesco's average of 1.42Mbps comma which put the retailer bottom of the list for speed.
The Post Office had the least satisfied customers.
Jessica McArdle of Top 10 Broadband said: "This report sends an indisputable message to broadband providers to speed up or face the wrath of disappointed customers."
"BT's planned infrastructure upgrade, which will provide super-fast ADSL2+ download speeds across the UK, starting at the end of the month, cannot come soon enough."
The telecoms giant is rolling out a software-driven infrastructure that will offer faster services to all customers by 2012.
Earlier this month Vodafone announced that it had agreed a five-year deal with BT to be provided with a core national network for its UK base stations using the fast Ethernet service from the 21st Century Network infrastructure, reported Reuters.
The deal would enable the mobile phone provider to manage predicted growth in traffic and bandwidth requirements, according to the news provider.
