Gap Year Job News

An East Yorkshire student has been awarded an entrepreneur of the year award for his business ideas, it has been reported.

Luke Jefferson, from Anlaby, was been crowned the first ever HSBC Unipreneur of the year, according to the Hull Daily Mail.

The bright spark won the award for setting up a business called Scratchface that he runs with colleague Luke Walsh.

He won £20,000 in a Dragon's Den style business competition to recognise the country's brightest young talent who can combine running a business with their studies.

News of this could be interesting for students who run businesses and could also encourage those who have been thinking about doing so as the competition is to become an annual event.

The government-backed competition was run in association with the National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship.

Mr Jefferson set up the company - that sells a computer programme that enables people with colour blindness to see - in 2004 as part of a PhD he was doing at the University of Anglia.

The pair received their prize money at a ceremony attended by 200 guests at London's BAFTA Theatre last week.

Unipreneur of the Year is open to new businesses, existing businesses and business ideas in development created by students.
