Some workers are still expecting bonuses

23 Apr 2008

Some workers are still expecting bonuses Some employees still expect a bonus this year despite the current economic conditions, new research has found.

A survey carried out by Investec Bank has revealed that four out of ten employees are looking forward to receiving a cash bonus from their employers, reports Personnel Today.

This could be good news for students working on a placement during their gap year as they may also receive a bonus despite the current financial climate.

A report released by the UK's Office for National Statistics last week, announced that the number of people in work had reached a record high of 29.5 million.

A statement from Ivestec said: "In terms of how people intend to use their bonuses other than putting them into savings accounts, 27 percent said that they would use it to go on a holiday and 22 percent said that they would use it to clear debts," reports Reuters.

The survey also found that men expect bigger bonuses than women, expecting £19,500 on average compared to £8,400 expected by women workers.
