Students preparing for a holiday abroad are being urged to shop around and make sure they get the best deal on exchange rates this year, as the pound struggles against foreign currencies.
Because transaction fees and charges for currency exchange are significant, those going abroad have been advised by consumer advisors to compare the options available to them.
For those that are stuck with an uncompetitive debit or credit card and don't have time to get a new one, prepaid cards are a good option.
Meanwhile, easyJet has brought out its own credit card with extra benefits for repeat travellers.
Users of the card will receive an automatic 4,000 air-miles in return for spending £250 on the card in the first three months.
The airline is also offering a zero per cent rate for balance transfers for a period of nine months though a balance transfer fee of three per cent of this sum will apply.
An APR of 15.8 per cent will be charged on any remaining balance.
Sainsbury's has introduced a new credit card, offering an interest-free period on balance transfers for 12 months and holders receive interest-free shopping at Sainsbury's during the same period.
The card has a three per cent balance transfer fee and is available in a choice of colours - raspberry, orange or blueberry, with a fruit design.
