government cuts red tape for short-term temps
11-Apr-2008

Government cuts red tape for short-term temps The government has introduced new rules to make temporary appointments easier, it has been reported.

New regulations mean that where agencies used to have to provide detailed information to both the candidate and the client, proof of identification only is now required for assignments of less than five days.

This is good news for students who work as temps to supplement their earning while at university as the new rules will cut the red-tape for them.

Anne Fairweather, head of public policy at the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), said that it was a positive change for the recruitment industry.

"REC has long argued that requirements to provide written notification on very short term assignments made no sense.

"Workers and clients often received the information after the assignment had taken place.

"The Government has now seen sense and the new rules mean that assignments of less the 5 days will be less bureaucratic.”

REC added that other changes to the conduct regulations, to protect vulnerable workers, will strengthen the rights of agency workers to withdraw from transport, accommodation or other services provided by agencies.

Other changes to the Conduct Regulations will strengthen the rights of agency workers to withdraw from transport, accommodation or other services provided by agencies. The measures are designed to protect vulnerable workers

REC is the trade body that supports and represents the recruitment industry, over 8,000 agencies belong to it.
