Part Time Job And Holiday Job News

recruiters 'not using facebook'

Recruiters 'not using Facebook' Students looking for part-time work during the holidays, who are worried about dodgy Facebook profiles bringing them down, may be able to breathe a sigh of relief as a report has revealed that three in four employers do not use social networking sites when recruiting new staff.

A poll conducted by the law firm Charles Russell and Personnel Today has revealed that 73 per cent of companies do not go through sites such as Facebook and Bebo in order to check they are getting the right people for their full time and part time jobs.

Julie Weston, the human resources director at the charity British Heart Foundation, told Personnel Today: "We would not use Facebook to check candidate information as the validity and reliability of the information is questionable. Also we believe it to be too intrusive to a candidate's private life."

She added that she was not in favour of banning companies using social networking sites to recruit people because it would be "almost impossible to police" and because the information is "hardly likely to be rounded".

The research revealed that the sectors which were more likely to check a candidate on a social networking site were the media, professional services and financial industries.

Charles Russell is one of the top fifty law firms in the UK and has offices across Britain as well as Geneva and Bahrain.
