Manufacturing industry needs managers Graduates who are considering entering into the manufacturing sector may be encouraged to hear that there is a shortage of mangers in the industry, according to new research.

Research commissioned by Russam GMS revealed that 86 per cent of interim mangers in the sector believe that there is a skills shortage in the industry.

John Wilson, head of manufacturing practice at Russam GMS, said: "One cause for concern is the significant skills shortage which appears to be particularly pronounced at managerial level."

He added that this is "good news" for interim mangers in terms of generating good employment prospects but it is "an issue that needs addressing now if UK manufacturing companies want to retain their competitive edge".

One of five people surveyed thought that employees who have change management skills are needed in the industry.

Also revealed by the report was that 18 per cent of interim mangers who were surveyed believed that there is a lack of good project management skills.

Over half of the respondents think that the greatest skills shortage is in management.
