UK employment reaches record high UK employment levels have reached a record high, providing good news for students looking for part-time jobs during term time.

The number of people in the UK who are now employed now stands at 29.46 million, according to a report from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

Stephen Timms, minister for employment, said: "Once again this is a strong set of figures. There have never been more people in work in the UK. Our employment rate of 74.8 per cent continues to be above that of most other countries within the EU."

He added that the days when cities and town are suffering from high employment are "gone".

Unemployment fell by 32,000 in the last quarter according to the statistics which also revealed that there are 89,000 less people who are unemployed than the same time last year.

The statistics will give hope for people applying for part time jobs as well as people looking for permanent positions.

Mr Timms conclude that every region in the UK now benefits from higher employment an there are "a million fewer people on key out-of-work benefits than ten years ago".

The ONS is a government department which is responsible for collecting official statistics about society and economy in the UK and publishing them.
