Thomas Cook calls for extra bank holiday

Thomas Cook calls for extra bank holiday Over 500,000 people have signed a petition for an extra bank holiday, providing a more time off for people working in permanent positions as well as part-time jobs.

The petition has been organised by Thomas Cook and will be presented into Downing Street today.

Simon Carter, spokesman for Thomas Cook, said: "Public opinion is clearly in favour of this and we are hoping that the Prime Minister will take note of the positive benefits."

He added that Thomas Cook felt it was important to present the petition at "a point where the groundswell was gathering momentum".

Trade unions, politicians and other groups have all supported the idea to get an extra day off work.

Among the trade unions calling for the extra day is the TUC which has called for a National Remembrance Holiday .

Mr Carter concluded that Thomas Cook feels so strongly about the idea of an extra bank holiday that it has already introduced an extra day off a year for its employees and has called on the government to take similar action.

Thomas Cook is a holiday provider which was recently named the UK's number one travel agent in a survey by Superbrands.
