calls for better credit card pricing
18-Mar-2008

Calls for better credit card pricing Credit cards should be priced using pounds rather percentages in order to help people when they are shopping around for the best deals, according to a credit card charity.

The charity Credit Action has said that it is harder to look for a good credit card deal because unlike most products which are being sold, the price is shown as a per cent not in pounds.

Director of Credit Action Chris Tapp said: "Credit card companies could display the actual cost of credit in pounds using examples like, `If you borrow £100 on this credit card over the course of six months this is how much it would cost you', so you could look at the actual cost rather than just being given a percentage."

He added that credit card companies should also make extra charges clear as some credit cards with the same APR look the same but charges such as when spending abroad and withdrawing mean they can be "quite different".

In February the OFT published a report that helped people looking for credit cards to find the right deal for them, providing a good guide for the likes of students who need to get the right deal for them.

Credit Action is a national money education charity which was set up in 1994.
