Students who are left frustrated by the speeds experienced with their broadband deals may be in luck as BT offers a new gadget which helps improve the speed of broadband.
Called the Interstitial Plate, or iPlate, the device plugs into an existing phone socket and cuts out electrical interference, meaning higher speeds for broadband users.
The device costs just £10 and BT says that it will improve speeds by half a megabit on average, based on results from 1,000 trialists.
Although the cost of the gizmo is currently £10, it is expected that it will be offered free by internet service providers in the future. It will be available from May.
In related news, an industry expert has revealed that online TV viewing is being boosted by the amount of people who now have a broadband connection.
Barak Bar-Cohen, president and chief operations officer with Narrowstep, said: "We're also seeing that the quality of the content and the quality of the stream is a big driver in not only viewing times but repeat usage and adoption in general. We're very focused on quality."
