Graduate recruiters do not believe that there will be a fall in the number of vacancies for graduate jobs in the near future, it has been claimed.

The Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) has said that although recruiters are not quite willing to predict an increase in the number of vacancies, they do not think the number will fall.

Elspeth Farr, communications director for the AGCAS, said: "The message we are getting from recruiters is that it is holding steady. They are not expecting much change. People are being more cautious now about their predictions than they would have been at the end of October."

She added that the information which is coming from companies is that they are not predicting "any reductions in recruitment patterns".

The Associate of Graduate Recruiters Winter Review 2008 revealed that vacancies are on the increase for the fifth year running despite the uncertain financial climate.

However, Ms Farr said that when this data was collected it was before the extent of the economic conditions' effect had been determined and much has happened since then.

A survey released last year by the Association of Graduate Recruiters revealed that 92 per cent of recruiters who offer graduate jobs believe that they should address the work life balance in order to better attract candidates.
