Mobile phone network 3 has launched a new insurance policy for its customers, in conjunction with Lifestyle Services Group (LSG).
Going by the name "3cover", the policy will cost just £5.99 per month for mobile phones and £3.49 for broadband modems.
3cover will offer 48-hour replacement of equipment in the event of loss, theft, damage or breakdown, which will come in handy given the relatively high cost of 3's third generation (3G) "mobile multimedia" handsets.
Theft of airtime, however, is not covered by 3cover, as is the case with many mobile phone insurance policies.
LSG is an offshoot of the 4U Group, which owns high street mobile phone retailer Phones 4U. It will handle the insurance claims side of the business, while 3 will sell the policies to customers.
Ian Pillinger, head of insurance products at 3, was keen to emphasise the potential of the new relationship with LSG for coming up with more offers in the future.
"The scale of LSG's operation allows us to develop a range of offers, confident that the infrastructure is in place to deliver them for our customers," he said.
3 was the UK's first 3G network, and it has over 4.1 million customers in this country.
