Students looking for cheap broadband deals may be able to stop searching as Virgin announces it is to offer broadband for £10.
People taking up the deal will be able to pay just £10 for the first six months and then the price rises to a maximum of £18 a month.
The deal will not offer exceptionally high speeds but is ideal for people who are looking for a connection which is cheap but no necessarily very fast.
A basic speed of two mbps will be offered but as the internet provider increases its overall speeds, it is conceivable that the basic speed will be raised anyway.
The broadband deal could get even better for hard-up students as it is lowered to £4.50 a month if bought in a package along with a phone line.
It has been reported that the Virgin speeds could rise to as high as ten mbps in the future.
Virgin has also announced price cuts on its "L" deal which offers four mbps and is £17 a month for the first six months. The "XL" deal which gives users 20mbps broadband, is £29 a month.
In related news, the Broadband Stakeholder Group has announced that the UK must try not to fall behind with its broadband speeds.
