Students looking to get more out of their broadband deals may be interested to hear that calls have been made to ensure that the UK does not fall behind with high speed broadband.
The Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG) has emphasised the importance for Britain to stay competitive in terms of the speeds which are on offer for broadband here.
Kip Meek, chairman of the BSG, said: "I do think that in due course, it would be bad for Britain if we were behind our competitors on provision of high-speed broadband of course the real question is, what does 'in due course' mean? When should this happen?"
He added that the second key question to be asked is whether the government should spend the "substantial amounts of money" to make it happen.
The BSG is the UK government's leading advisory group on broadband and provides a forum for organisations including telecoms operators and ISPs which is neutral and allows them to discuss key policies and regulatory and commercial issues, among other things.
Mr Meek concluded that in his opinion the government would not provide funding needing for the improvement in broadband but it would be possible to "find ways of creating the right investment environment".
Earlier in the moth a review was launched by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform into the provision of high speed broadband.
