Super-fast broadband deals in the UK will become more popular in the future, according to ISPreview.co.uk.
The internet service provider has claimed that the high speed deals which will become available later this year are more about claiming to be the fastest at the moment.
Mark Jackson, editor-in-chief of ISPreview.co.uk, said that it is important that the network is improved in advance of the demand that is "yet to develop".
He continued: "The last thing you want as an ISP is for content to develop ahead of your ability to adapt, which is a large part of the concern surrounding the UK's lack of next-generation broadband infrastructure."
Later this year Virgin is set to launch a new 50mbps broadband deal which will be one of the fastest on offer in the UK.
Mr Jackson described the move as being more about "being able to wave a marketing flag saying 'we're faster than everybody else'" than a product people could benefit from yet.
According to the company, high-speed downloading will be crucial for the future with people wanting their ISP to deliver real-time high quality video and TV streams.
