Thousands of mobile phone mast sites are expected to be offset under a new collaboration between mobile phone firms Orange and Vodafone.
In a new deal that will involve the firm's sharing their UK network coverage and streamline their focus on high-speed wireless broadband 3G services, both firms will save on the costs of running their networks, reports the Guardian.
Job cuts are not expected to be conducted by either of the mobile phone providers following the announcement of the collaboration, the article noted.
Orange and Vodafone reportedly plan to collate sites where their 27,000 UK masts are situated in close proximity.
Tom Alexander, chief executive of Orange and former head of Virgin Media, has helped push through the deal after his appointment one month ago, according to the news provider.
Meanwhile, in related news, Nokia chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo unveiled a new silver clamshell-shaped handset made from 60 per cent recycled material at the Mobile World Congress trade show in Barcelona, Spain, this week, according to the Guardian.
