The Human Rights Lawyers Association (HRLA) has announced that it will be offering five bursaries for law students to fund their internships with human rights organisations.

With the deadline for the applications on April 1st students who are studying law at degree or postgraduate level, have recently graduated or are on vocational courses such as the Legal Practise Course (LPC) or Bar Vocational Course (BVC).

Only between three and five awards will be made to students and they will come out of a £5,000 fund. The bursaries do not usually exceed £1,000.

The bursaries are designed to ensure that people who do not have independent financial backing are still given the chance to take up internships or placements at firms in the area of human rights law.

Students who are interested in applying must show that they are interested in becoming a human rights lawyer or are looking at working in the UK in a role which incorporates something in the field of human rights.

Applicants who are successful will be informed by May 1st.

HRLA is a forum for people involved in the legal profession to discuss issues surrounding human rights. It aims to increase the understanding and knowledge of human rights in the UK and to aid implementation of it into the legal system.
