Young drivers in the UK should shop around for car insurance after the decision by several insurers to withdraw cover for drivers under a certain age, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
The market for younger drivers such as students is not great as insurers believe that they have the most accidents but the ABI has encouraged young people to look around and they will find a good deal for themselves.
Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the ABI, said: "The cost and availability of insurance for young drivers is an issue and there are some insurers that feel unable to offer cover for them for the simple reason that they are much more likely to be involved in an accident and they are much more likely to claim and the claims cost a lot I have never seen anything more expensive".
He added that in order to enhance their chances of getting insured young people should "shop around, even in a market like this" and that students should look into pass plus as some companies "now offer incentives for young drivers who have this".
The ABI represents the interests of the UK insurance industry and has around 400 companies in membership which between them provide 94 per cent of domestic insurance services in the UK.
