A list of the strangest car insurance claims received by AA Insurance has been published, giving students a reminder of the importance of being covered against event the strangest of accidents.
One claim described how a woman's car had been dented when a bull broke through a fence and charged into her vehicle while another man complained of his car being damaged after a fork lift truck rained apples down onto his car.
Janet Pell, head of AA car insurance, said: "We're used to seeing the countless conventional claims for car damage but it's always interesting to hear the more bizarre claims people make. It just goes to show, you need to ensure you're covered for all eventualities, however far-fetched they might seem."
Out of the 180,000 claims that the company received last year, surely one of the strangest is a car bonnet being hit by "several airborne shopping trolleys" which fell out of a truck the car was following.
AA is also a breakdown cover company and offers discounts of up to 12.5 per cent on its car insurance when bought online.
