Graduate Job News

The number of people in the UK that are currently employed increased in the last quarter by the biggest amount since 1997, according to government statistics.

In the past three months 175,000 more people found a job which could be good news for students who are looking graduate jobs to start off their careers when they finish university, particularly as a large number of the jobs have been given to people in the student age range.

Employment minister Caroline Flint says: "I'm pleased to see these figures showing growth in employment for both younger and older workers alike - with 60,000 more 16-24 year olds and 95,000 more people over 50 in work than in the last quarter. With record numbers of vacancies in the economy the opportunities exist for people to make the most of their skills and talents."

She added that these are another set of positive figures for the labour market but the government is determined to "do more through our comprehensive welfare reform programme and roll out of local employment partnerships to help ensure everyone gets the chance they deserve".

The total number of people who have jobs in the UK is now at a record high of £29.4 million, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
