Students planning to get graduate jobs in human resources have been given a boost by news that professionals in the industry can receive salaries of up to and exceeding £140,000 a year, according to a new report.

The salary survey, by FSS, shows that the average salary for a human resources director in the private sector was £100,000 in London.

Jo Davies, associate director of FSS HR, said: "It certainly seems as though 2008 is set to be a strong one for HR. Companies are offering highly competitive salaries and benefits to attract and retain the best talent in both the public and private sectors – those candidates with in-demand experience will almost certainly continue to be courted by several potential employers."

It was a different case for directors working in the public sector, where average salaries were £70,000. Managers in human resources earn on average £50,000 in the private sector and £42,000 in the public sector.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile has used a new method to help its graduate recruits to settle into their new roles. The mobile phone company has set up a group on social networking site for recruits to talk to each other and make the transition into working life easier.
