250 jobs coming to Doncaster

10 Jan 2008

250 jobs coming to Doncaster Students in and around Doncaster may be interested to know that up to 250 jobs could be created in the area as a new business centre was given the go-ahead by local councillors.

Doncaster Council voted in favour of the plans submitted by Polypipe to redevelop the former site of Yorkshire Main Colliery in order to accommodate a business centre and also housing units.

Polypipe operations director Cameron McLellan said: "Approval of the re-submitted application would allow Polypipe to continue negotiations with UK Coal in order to facilitate expansion. We are currently considering options that could involve Polypipe expanding the Broomhouse Lane operations.

He added that this would allow our business to "expand and to provide additional jobs for that area".

Jobs will be available in the businesses which relocate or start up at the site and also positions within Polypipe.

The plans were met with some opposition from local residents who believe that the new development will create traffic congestion in the area and a petition was signed but the council has gone ahead with the scheme with the promise of looking at traffic solutions in the area.

Polypipe was founded in 1980 and is made up of 25 brands which have over 2,800 employees across Europe and China.
