Birmingham city council has announced £500 million plans to revitalise an area at Longbridge which could create 10,000 jobs for the midlands.
The announcement will come as good news for students looking for temporary jobs in the area as well as people looking for graduate jobs.
Birmingham city councillor Mike Whitby said: "Our aim is to create the most sustainable urban eco-centre in the country. Already winning praise from the government, the new community will showcase the highest standards of design and sustainable living to be found anywhere in the UK."
The redevelopment will take place on an area which used to be a site for MG Rover but has not been used since it went into administration.
In the plans the development will include retail, residential and office units, which will create the thousands of jobs.
Birmingham city council will look at the plans on January 9th but they will also need to be approved by the Bromsgrove council.
George Lord, a Worcestershire councillor, said that the scheme is "not only the biggest regeneration projects in the midlands, but also the most important".
The news is welcome relief for job seekers in the midlands after a recent report by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development said that unemployment would reach its highest point in the last decade next year.
