Credit cards are ideal for students to use at Christmas time, according to Sainsbury's bank.
With all the pressure and challenges of Christmas shopping, credit cards can provide flexibility and convenience for festive spending.
Donald Macleod, head of cards at Sainsburys Bank, said: "Cards are a very convenient way of doing your Christmas shopping ... a lot of cards come with zero per cent on purchases, like our own for example, for 12 months."
He added that while the deals can be a higher risk strategy, credit cards allow you to "manage your financing of Christmas really quite carefully".
Research has shown that around £1.2 billion of last minute Christmas shopping will be done using credit cards this year.
Several banks offer credit cards with nought per cent interest rates as an introductory offer, such as HSBC, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Virgin Money.
A report by Apacs revealed that last year each person owned on average 2.4 credit cards.
Meanwhile, a European ruling over credit cards could result in the prices of goods and services drop in the UK.
