employment increase expected
12-Dec-2007

Employment increase expected The number of employers that say they plan to recruit more staff in the next 12 months is higher than it has been for 14 years, according to a report.

Research, from the 17th annual UPS Europe Business Monitor, shows that 38 per cent of business leaders say that they will be adding to their workforces in 2008, 2 per cent higher than last year, which could be good news for people looking for graduate jobs.

Jim Barber, managing director at UPS UK and Ireland, told onrec.com: "Following the recent turbulence in the economic climate it is very encouraging to see businesses in the UK and across Europe feeling optimistic, especially in terms of the employment outlook."

He added that businesses in the UK seem to be open to the opportunities that world trade offers them and are overwhelmingly seeing globalisation as a "benefit to their business".

Only 32 per cent of business leaders asked said that a lack of a skilled workforce was their biggest worry in the New Year. 48 per cent of leaders identified global competition as the biggest challenge.

UPS is a global carrier and package delivery company which was founded in 1907. The company is reportedly worth around $42.6 billion (£20.8 billion).
