Derry given job boost

11 Dec 2007

Derry given job boost Graduates in Derry could receive a boost by the news that around 1,000 jobs could be created there in 2008.

Meetings have taken place between potential investors and the Economic Development Section (EDS), the Chamber of Commerce and Invest NI to talk about creating the new jobs for the city in Northern Ireland, reports the Derry Journal.

Major call centres are said to be amongst the investors who have said that they will provide any new employees with natural career progression through company training.

The firms have also promised flexible working for employees with families who need to balance their home and work lives.

Meetings are set to take place again early in 2008 and will hope to reach agreements that will lower the current unemployment rate in Derry, which currently stands at 4.1 per cent.

Among the companies involved in the process are Firstsource, Stream, HML, Keith Prowse and AXA.

Derry is one of the oldest inhabited places in Ireland and is nicknamed the Maiden City.
