The number of homes with broadband in Europe has risen considerably in the last year, according to a report.
Carried out by national statistics offices all over Europe, the survey showed that the figure had risen by 12 per cent since 2006.
UK figures, boosted by students logging onto broadband for university work, is above the European average of 54 per cent.
The report also showed that a quarter of Europeans are using broadband to chat online and 15 per cent use it make phone calls. In Britain only ten per cent of broadband users made calls online but 67 per cent use internet search engines.
Students between the ages of 16 and 24 use the internet most in Europe, with people aged between 55 and 74 making use of broadband the least.
The Netherlands is the country in Europe that uses the internet the most, with Bulgarians logging on the least.
UK broadband users are experiencing differing speeds and prices, according to the BBC.
Users in rural areas do not get as big a choice of broadband providers and have slower connections compared to people in the city.
