Car insurance provider Young Marmalade, has said that spending a little more money on your car could lower insurance premiums and cut the risk of accidents.

The company, which provides car insurance for young people, said that while cheaper cars appear to be more cost effective in the short term, they can cost their owners in the long run, reports financemarkets.com.

Among the things that the company says that a cheaper car can suffer from are poor headlight performance, misted up windows due to a poor heater, heavy steering and reduced brake performance, all of which can cause accidents and raise car insurance prices.

Young drivers are more vulnerable to hazards due to their inexperience, according to company.

Young Marmalade has announced that it will be reducing its car insurance premiums by linking them to buying a better quality car.

Meanwhile fool.co.uk has said that young drivers can build save up to 60 per cent off their car insurance by building up their no claims bonuses.

The money website says that typical no claims discounts start at 30 per cent for one year and rise to 60 per cent after four or more consecutive years of not claiming on your car insurance.
