Part Time Job And Holiday Job News

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) has urged the government to ensure that more temporary jobs are created as a result of the Employment Ministers of Europe meeting next month.

Ministers will meet to discuss the temporary agency works directive, which proposes that people in temporary jobs receive the same pay as workers in permanent positions, according to onerec.com.

Tom Hadley, director of external relations at the REC, told the website: "It is vital that any agreement does not result in a reduction in the number of temporary jobs in the UK. The recruitment industry places 1.3 million people into work every day. This is a vital contribution to both employers and workers."

He added that temporary work means employers can bring in help at short notice while people in temporary jobs have more flexibility or can use the jobs as a route into employment or "a bridge between more permanent positions".

The directive has been around since 2002 but has recently been brought back into the spotlight by the Portuguese presidency of the EU.

Meanwhile, there will be hundreds of temporary jobs created in Belfast after Bombardier Aerospace announced it would be building more aeroplanes.

Belfast-based company Shorts makes the wings and parts of the fuselage for the jets and will be recruiting staff to temporary jobs in order to cope with the order.
