engineering sector workload increases
28-Nov-2007

Engineering sector workload increases Engineering graduates could be boosted by the news that the sector is experiencing increasing workloads, meaning more jobs could be created, according to a report.

The Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) has released its annual State of Business report which says that 74 per cent of engineering and consultancy firms said there had been a growth in their workloads during this year.

Nelson Ogunshakin, chief executive of ACE, said: "The ACE State of Business Report contains a wealth of information and the overall results show that our industry and investors can continue to be encouraged in terms of future workload and return on investment. Once again, the predicted future growth can only be good news for UK business."

The report also says that 82 per cent of firms expect their workloads in 2008 to grow, which is 19 per cent higher than last year.

According to the report, engineering and consultancy firms said that a skills shortage was the biggest worry to the industry, giving more hope for plenty of graduate recruitment in the future.

Last week, ACE released a report saying there is a definite shortage in top class graduates going into the engineering and consultancy sectors.

The ACE said that the results of their Skills Shortage and Recruitment Agency Behaviours report should prompt MPs to look into the matter.
