graduates told not to expect 007 careers
26-Nov-2007

Graduates told not to expect 007 careers Students looking to start graduate careers with MI6 have been warned that their employees are not like James Bond.

Secret agents have been allowed to speak on the record for the first time as the agency attempts to attract more people with ethnic backgrounds to apply for graduate jobs in MI6.

Speaking to the BBC, the MI6 head of recruitment said the James Bond films gave people "a false impression of what working for the organisation is actually like".

"We don't have a license to kill, we don't carry Berettas, that's simply not true," he added.

He also explained the need for recruits from different ethnic backgrounds saying that people with diverse backgrounds can be deployed in different situations and that there are "some places white males can't go".

A female operational officer spoke out on what working for MI6 is really like. She said they never "threaten or blackmail or coerce people to work with us" and claimed this to be the most "counter-productive tactic you can ever use".

Meanwhile, the number of students moving into graduate careers in gaming is increasing, according to Nick Dettmar, managing director of Computer People.

Speaking to Onrec.com Mr Dettmar said the gaming industry is growing in popularity because it is at the "forefront" of the industry.
