Graduate career seekers to get pay hike

21 Nov 2007

Graduate career seekers to get pay hike Graduate jobs will be among those benefiting from a significant boost to average UK salaries this year.

Recent research, part of a Monthly Salary Index, has shown that the current average advertised salary is £31,672 for the past six months, up £382 on last month's average.

The index surveyed over 800,000 jobs advertised between May and June this year.

"The index is a fascinating way to see how your salary compares against the advertised average, both where you live and throughout the UK," said Dave Martin, managing director of AllTheTopBananas.com, the website carrying out the research.

"Job hunters can use it as a tool to assess salary offers when looking for new work," he continued.

He added that, while it does not take variables in salary into account, it is a helpful guide for graduates and other jobseekers looking to get a "realistic" idea of what they can expect to earn in certain areas.

London was found to have the most lucrative advertised jobs, with average salaries in the capital at £38,169, while Wales came in at second for highest average salaries advertised.

Meanwhile the North East and the East Midlands were found to have the lowest averages, standing at £25,969 and £25,516 respectively.
