Graduates advised 'dress to impress at interview'

20 Nov 2007

Graduates advised 'dress to impress at interview' Graduates are being advised to make sure they present themselves well at interview in order to have the best chance possible of getting the job.

According to John Fitchew, joint managing director at Pareto Law, many employers will respond negatively to a "relaxed interview approach" and will chose someone better presented over others even if they are equally matched in other respects, reports Onrec.com.

"Employers are looking for the right skills, attitude and approach to the workplace, but making the right impression in an interview is vital in the current competitive market," Mr Fitchew told the website.

"Candidates need to go back to basics and dress to impress if they want to win that all important first job."

He added that, while many employers have relaxed the workplace dress code to "business casual", this does not give the green light for those at interview to dress informally for interview.

Pareto sets out its "Top Five Tips" for those wishing to impress prospective employers. These include removing excess piercings, covering up tattoos, keeping jewellery and makeup to a minimum as well as removing charity bracelets.

The advice comes after the news that the number of new jobs created in October stood at an impressive 45,614 this year.
