The construction equipment manufacturer JCB has unveiled a new "rugged" mobile phone which has been designed to work in more challenging environments than your average office or pub.
In collaboration with mobile phone manufacturer Sonim, distributor Data Select and retailer Phones 4u, JCB's Toughphone will be available from the end of this month, according to Mobile Business.
The phone has been awarded the IP53 rating that makes it one to reckon with - being shock, dust, water and drop resistant as well as operational from -20 degrees C to +60 degrees C.
Covered in JCB's trademark yellow, the hardened rubber casing is considered to be so strong Toughphone has been given a three year warranty.
JCB Consumer Products director Mathew Conrad explained that the Toughphone forms part of a wider commitment by the company to provide outdoor workers with equipment that they can rely on.
"It has been a two-year search to find the right product and Sonim came up with the goods. As well as its rugged construction, the JCB Toughphone is instantly recognised as a JCB product by its colour – which also increases visibility."
