David Willetts, the shadow universities minister, has said it is important that students have access to employment information when choosing their courses.
Mr Willetts' comments, which were given to the Guardian, follow the publication of a report from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (Hesa) that revealed the experiences of 25,000 students after they graduated from university.
The minister states the statistics show "just how varied experiences of higher education can be" and adds employability, as well as course details such as the level of contact time and its structure should be factors that students consider when choosing a course.
Bill Rammell, the minister for higher education, also told the Guardian the Hesa study "clearly demonstrates that graduates perform exceptionally well in the labour market and that the vast majority (85 per cent) of them are satisfied with their career so far".
The Hesa Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Longitudinal Survey revealed that the number of graduates in fulltime employment has increased by 17 per cent over the last three years.
