women's influence valuable in workplace
25-Oct-2007

Women's influence valuable in workplace The influence of more women in the workplace has been revealed recently.

According to a report from Living Britain, skills such as intuition and creativity typically associated with women are proving more valuable in the workplace than typically male skills such as analysis and logic.

The growing influence of women in the workplace is shown is the number of female directors on the boards of companies in the FTSE 100, which has risen from 57 to 77 since 2001.

Furthermore, and partly thanks to increased provision for flexible working, it was found that 50 per cent of mothers with children under the age of five had chosen to return to work.

Living Britain is a report commissioned by Zurich, a financial service firm, which looks at trends affecting Britain in the 21st century.

The news comes as Nivea cosmetics firm revealed research that two in three women over the age of 40 are the main breadwinners for their households.

Young women can take encouragement from this figure in face of ever-present inequalities in the workplace.
