prof suggests exercise in the workplace

Prof suggests exercise in the workplace A professor at the London School of Economics has recommended companies offer staff an hour for exercise every day.

Young jobseekers looking to maintain a healthy lifestyle in the workplace may be interested in government adviser, Professor Julian Le Grand's proposals for a concerted effort toward improving the nation's health.

He outlined his ideas which included an "exercise hour" for companies with over 500 members of staff, which people would be automatically included in unless they actively chose not to be.

Furthermore, he advised that free fresh fruit be provided in offices to boost the five-a-day recommended intake.

He added that a "smoking permit" should be developed, whereby smokers would be required to buy a license of sorts and produce it whenever they wished to buy cigarettes, creating a further deterrent.

Professor Le Grand justified his ideas to the Royal Statistical Society: "It is not like banning something. It's a softer form of paternalism."

The professor is the author or editor of seventeen books on economics, public policy and philosophy and has written in excess of ninety articles on these subjects.
