graduates advised to promote their 'specialist qualities'

Graduates advised to promote their 'specialist qualities' Those looking for a job after graduating from university are advised to highlight their "specialist qualities".

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), graduates should not just display their academic successes, but also show activities or achievements that prove them to have a rounded social life.

Head of public policy at the trade body, Anne Fairweather, said: "That should make you unique within a pool of people with the same degree or the same background."

The advice comes as graduate careers advisor Milkround.com has announced that a staggering 83 per cent of university leavers use recruitment websites to look for jobs.

It also revealed that part time jobs are vital to student life with 90 per cent of respondents reporting they have or did have one while at university.

A spokesman for the website explained that much of a student's life is "based around the internet" saying that "young people are very likely to use it for finding work as well".

The recruitment industry is worth £24.5 billion to the British economy and is credited with finding assignments for 1.2 million temporary workers every week and finding permanent placements for over 700,000 people annually.
