Female employees should be more ambitious in order to push towards full equality in the workplace.
Clare Logie, who has recently re-launched the Bank of Scotland Corporate's initiative to support women, HBOS Women, says that many working women are seen as not being assertive enough in their demands at work, reports The Scotsman newspaper.
Ms Logie told the newspaper: "Women can be their own worst enemies by holding themselves back.
"But it's not easy if, like me, you are five feet two inches and you enter a room looking up at a group of men talking about golf or rugby or whatever and you just don't know what to say or even how to introduce yourself."
HBOS Women is targeted in part at the "younger markets", says Ms Logie. It hopes to be able to support women looking to get into the job market.
Ms Logie added that women do not want to be perceived as "whingeing", but rather hope to receive the same "respect" and "access to financial services and networks" as their male colleagues.
HBOS Women is a reformed version of HBOS Women in Business. The change of name is part of a fresh and more concerted approach to the encouragement of women in the workplace.
