entrepreneurs ‘cannot be manufactured’
04-Oct-2007

Entrepreneurs ‘cannot be manufactured’ Small businesses believe that entrepreneurship cannot be taught, according to a recent poll.

Increasing numbers of courses are being offered on the instruction of entrepreneurial skills but most professionals believe these are skills that people either do or do not possess naturally.

The poll, by UK Business Forums, found that 67 per cent of respondents strongly felt that entrepreneurship cannot be learnt on a course, while 33 per cent felt that it can.

Chairman of UK Business Forums, Dan Martin, said: "It is clear from our survey that entrepreneurs are firmly of the belief that while the basic of business can be taught in the classroom, when it actually comes to being a proper entrepreneur, these are skills which are natural and cannot be learnt from text books."

Respondents to the survey commented variously that entrepreneurs are "born with an ability to take risks", a vital skill that cannot be acquired in a classroom.

The news comes as Growing Business magazine has released this year's Young Guns list of the UK's most successful young entrepreneurs.
