Top class graduates neglected by recruiters

28 Sep 2007

Top class graduates neglected by recruiters Employers are increasingly neglecting to recruit graduates with the highest potential due to increased pressures on speeding up the recruitment process.

Industrial society, Bright Futures, states that growing numbers of graduate applicants mean that some companies are struggling to see the individual behind the application.

With such an abundance of applications, companies are looking to cut down the length of the process as much as possible.

Director of the society, Simon Reichwald, warns of the shortcomings of this approach: “In this tech-dominated age, it’s easy to see why recruiters are taking shortcuts.

"They are simply trying to make their lives easier, but there is a real danger that they are bypassing the real talent, by sifting it through the net."

Bright Futures is a student-run society that aims to work in collaboration with businesses to help students get the most out of their work skills.

The society coaches undergraduates, in partnership with graduate employers, to help them develop skills that will make them more employable.

The Department for Work and Pensions recently revealed that young people in the workplace have a positive effect on their colleagues over the age of 50.
