Hundreds of new jobs for south Devon Students hoping to find holiday or part time work in South Devon next year may find the search easier than expected.

Supermarket chain Tesco has been chosen to develop a new store and town complex in Brixham, south Devon creating 200 new jobs for the area.

In a development that could cost as much as £20 million pounds, Tesco has been named as preferred developer for the planned regeneration of the town centre.

The development will not only provide a 27,000 square foot supermarket, but will also comprise an estimated 350 parking spaces and 40 units of housing, according to Thisissouthdevon.co.uk.

"This is one of a number of projects for regeneration already under way in Brixham and across Torbay to encourage job creation, enterprise and improve retail facilities for residents and visitors," said James Wilson of the Regional Development Agency.

Plans for the development will be ready for public viewing in November with construction on the site anticipated to start next year.

Tesco announced earlier this month that it will join up with the University of Manchester. The firm will invest £25 million into the creation a new institute at the university aimed at carrying out research on how to combat climate change.
