Graduates and students looking for work in Scotland will find an abundance of employment opportunities, despite a slight reduction in job market growth since June.

According to the latest Labour Market Report (LMR) from Bank of Scotland (BoS), employment growth rates in Scotland are stronger than the rest of the UK despite a slight dip from June's peak.

The LMR barometer for August measured 61.1 which was down from the high June survey reading of 64.4.

However, the indicator still showed a faster labour market growth rate for Scotland than for the rest of Britain.

"The job market in Scotland remains tight, however, with skill shortages reported across a range of sectors adding upward pressure onto wage and salary levels," said Martin Ellis, chief economist at Bank of Scotland.

The report revealed that engineering, construction and nursing staff were in highest demand for both permanent and temporary positions.

The Bank of Scotland's LMR is carried out on a monthly basis and is based on a study of more than 100 recruitment consultants.

The Scottish Executive is currently considering calls for a reduction in degree duration in Scottish universities from four years to two.

It is thought this would help students reduce debts and quicken their passage to the job market.
