jobseekers value ethics
17-Sep-2007

Jobseekers value ethics People looking for employment are increasingly ruling out employers who are not socially responsible, a survey by Reed Employment has found.

The study showed that over half (57 per cent) of the 6,000 jobseekers involved considered it important to work for an ethically and socially responsible company.

Twelve per cent of the jobseekers felt that the most important issue when choosing a job was the corporate social responsibility strategy (CSR) of a company.

CSR is set to become a mounting concern for candidates looking for jobs in the future, including those graduating from university. More than 80 per cent of those studied believed that the value of corporate responsibility will grow in the coming five years.

"We are fast becoming a socially aware society and itÂ’s no surprise that jobseekers are demanding a more ethical stance from their employers," commented Janine Parry, head of marketing at Reed Employment.

She adds that climate change issues are "high on the public agenda" and that employers must also educate their staff on ways of beginning to reduce their carbon footprint.
