AOL free laptop deal launched

Students and other customers can now take advantage of the latest free laptop with broadband deal.

For £19.99 per month, users can get AOL broadband with a download speed of up to 8meg and a 40GB usage limit.

They also receive a free Dell laptop and a wireless router.

The computer is an Inspiron 1520 base, with Intel Celeron 540 processor, a 80GB hard disk, 1GB RAM and a DVD writer. It also comes with Windows Vista and a 15.4 inch widescreen display.

The package is likely to suit most students who are happy with light to moderate internet usage - and it has decent web browsing and email facilities.

However, gaming enthusiasts may want something slightly of a higher spec. Seekbroadband.com states that you should "not expect to be able to play the latest games on it".

The main snags are as follows: the offer requires customers to sign up to a 24-month contract to AOL.

Another potential drawback is that the price is dependent on the area in which you live.

The package costs £19.99 per month to customers living in an AOL broadband area. Otherwise there is an extra charge of £10 monthly.

Finally, to sign up to the £19.99 offer, students and others also need to be using the AOL pay as you go calls package.
