A study centre is going to be built in the new forest to enable people to get closer to nature.

The tree house study centre will cost £500,000 and will be built in woodland on the Beaulieu Estate.

As well as being built on stilts it will feature a grass roof, rainwater collection, solar panels, lookout areas and a biomass boiler.

Planning permission has been granted by the new Forest National Park Authority and work should be completed by next summer, thisishampshire reports.

It has been designed by architecture student Samantha Sherwood and replaces old and run-down buildings currently servicing the 8,000 child visitors to the Country Education Centre (CET) each year.

CET director David Bridges told the newspaper: "The idea of the tree house study centre is to build a facility which is at one with its surroundings and - as well as illustrating green building practice - is an aid to education itself.

"We are very pleased indeed that the project has achieved planning permission."

Funding for the project is from organisations including the CET, the South East England Development Agency, New Forest National Park sustainable development fund and Hampshire County Council.

The Beaulieu Estate offers educational opportunities for very young pre-school children and, in addition, caters for those with special educational needs.
