Two students have won thousands of pounds in a fantasy investment competition.
The ifs Uni Investor Challenge, run by financial charity the ifs School of Finance, is open to all university students in the UK.
It helps students gain practical experience of the financial markets by getting them to invest a 'fantasy' £100,000 over a three-month period.
It also offers a valuable cash incentive for penniless students.
The top 20 students who achieve the greatest growth over the three month period have to write an investment report explaining why they made the decisions they did.
Then, the top student in each class - undergraduate and postgraduate - each wins a cash prize.
This year, Maryann Hollebon - an Open University student from Somerset - won the £9,000 top prize, while Martin Conway - a postgraduate student at Queens University, Belfast - collected the £3,000 postgraduate award.
Rod McKee, head of financial capability at the ifs School of Finance, told Easier.com: "The ifs challenge helps students become more engaged with business, economics and the financial media as well as providing some practical experience in a risk-free environment."
Mr Conway commented: "All in all I thoroughly enjoyed the Uni-investor challenge.
"I have no doubt that I will be trading shares in the future and my experience gained in this competition will stand me in good stead.
"I would recommend it to any student regardless of academic background."
