A group of art graduates have turned their love of unusual jewellery into a good business idea.

Four graduates of Edinburgh College of Art currently have their hand-crafted, usually one-off pieces on show at a major city centre exhibition.

Grace Girvan told the Edinburgh Evening News that her part of the Dazzle collection was inspired by days spent beachcombing as a child.

Pebbles, driftwood and even seaweed have been used to create her range of unusual accessories.

Ms Girvan explained: "People are starting to realise that we can offer something they can't get in the high street.

"They start off thinking it will be out of their price range and then discover that, actually, it's not.

"And if they want to commission something that's totally unique, then they can have it done to suit their budget."

It seems that this group of graduates really could be set to make their fortunes doing what they love.

Tony Gordon, Dazzle exhibition founder, explained that business is booming for contemporary jewellers with something new to offer.

He said: "Customers are looking for something a little different which says more about them.

"We've sold to people like Whoopi Goldberg, Pierce Brosnan and Guy Ritchie."
